Pain in back of knee explanation

Pain in back of knee can start to develop with different severity and it depend on how hard the impact or high pressure received by the knee. The pain comes when one of knee’s ligaments, cartilage or other part of the knee had injury. One of the causes of pain in the back of knee is hypertension that resulted when your knee receives a force that make the joint move backward beyond its normal positions.

Someone who get the knee pain will receive the treatment depend on its severe. The treatment for this condition can range from rest, iced and surgical procedure for advance condition. This pain in back of knee also known as posterior knee pain can affect to any body. The risk of the condition becomes higher to athletes in sport such as gymnastics, volleyball and basketball.

What cause pain in back of knee

This posterior knee pain can be caused by several conditions such as damage on the posterior cruciate ligament, a ligament that located on the back of the knee, injury to the knee’s popliteus tendon or it also caused by tears to the meniscus. This meniscal tears can develop when your knee twisting or rotating while the foot position stays in place.

How to treat the condition

If you experience the Pain in back of knee, try to reduce your activity especially from hard impact activity such as running, bending and carrying heavy things. Try to apply a bag of ice on your knee for at least 5-10 minutes several times a day. If you experience chronic pain in the back of knee so you can move your leg, talk to a doctor. After diagnose your condition, doctor may advise you several treatments depend on the cause and the severity of the condition.

For minor condition, the doctor may advise you strengthening exercises or ask you to wear supportive brace to protect the knee until it heals. Severe condition may treat by surgical procedure. A condition such as complete posterior cruciate ligament tear will need surgical reconstruction procedure. Someone who experiences the surgery will need physical therapy along the recovery time.
