Dandruff in eyebrows causes and treatments

Since the eyebrows locate near to the scalp, once the dandruff affect someone scalp it might also affects to the eyebrows. Dandruff in eyebrows is typically same with other dandruff but it commonly more annoying since it can cause itchy, irritation and definitely it shameful because the flaky white skin directly exposed on a part of your face. According to American Academy of Family Physicians, this condition is caused by several reasons, including seborrheic dermatitis.

Just like common dandruff, dandruff in eyebrows caused by same issue. Below are conditions that can triggered the appearance of this eyebrow problem,

1. Seborrheic dermatitis. This skin problem can appear anywhere on your body including scalp and eyebrow. Someone with this condition will experience itchy and red skin on the affected skin area. The dandruff that caused by seborrheic dermatitis will appear as large white or yellowish flakes with oily to the touch.

2. Malassezia. Same with other dandruff problem, this malassezia is yeast-like fungus that can cause eyebrow dandruff. Commonly this fungus are familiar in our skin, in several person with unknown reason, this micro-creature can cause dandruff problem.

3. Prosiasis. If you have patches of psoriasis elsewhere on your body, it may also be the culprit in your eyebrow dandruff. If that’s the case, your doctor should be able to prescribe medication to help stop the shedding of skin under or around your eyebrows.

The main goal of the treatment is similar with dandruff problem treatment to reduce any inflammation and to control the micro-flora population that can cause dandruff. Common treatments for the condition are including anti-itch and anti-fungal ointment. Keep your eyebrow clean is one of great precaution. You can try to cleanup your eyebrows using baby shampoo.

After that you may use baby oil to keep the eyebrow skin moist. For severe condition, contact your dermatologist soon. An advance condition will need special treatment. Your doctor will prescribe you specific medication to treat the dandruff in eyebrows.
