Bladder infections are more common in women rather than men, it caused by various strains of E. coli that reach the bladder through the urethra. Urethra is a tube that connects the urinary bladder to the genital organ for the removal of urine through out the body.
Experts aren’t quietly sure why women more prone to this infection. Some of them suspect it because women have shorter urethra. This short passageway could easier for bacteria to enter the organ and causing bladder infection. According to webmd.com, almost half of all women get this infection at least for once in their lives.
Health practitioners classify this infection as mild to moderate condition. If treated well it not causing serious problem. In very rare situation, this bladder infection may lead to kidney infection. Bladder infection symptoms start to appear when parts of urinary system being inflamed. Base on the name of the part of urinary system that they affected, there are several types of the infection.
Types of bladder infection
1. Urethritis – Those who get this infection mostly will experience burning sensation when urinating. This type of infection considered as the most common types of the infection and it happen when the bacteria reach the urethra and causing inflammation.
2. Cytitis – This cystitis is the real bladder infection or inflammation. There are so many infections called as bladder infection but it refers to inflammation in other part of urinary systems and not in the bladder. Those who get this infection if they already have urethritis, seems the bacteria that cause urethritis make it way up into the bladder through urethra and causes inflamed bladder.
In pregnant women, when uterus start to grow and press the bladder, this condition cause an obstruction keeping urine from being emptied from the bladder. The remains urine may attract the bacteria and trigger the inflammation.
3. Peylonephritis. When bacteria that cause bladder infection are reaching the kidney and causing kidney infection, it called as pyelonephritis. Since the kidney play a very important role in urinary system, this infection can cause worsening urinary infection including kidney failure when it not treated well.
